The Treasure Hunt mission in Grand Theft Auto Online, initially launched with The Doomsday Heist update, was an early promotion for Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2. Although introduced in 2017, the mission became extremely popular among fans and remains active today. Players who complete the quest are rewarded with an exclusive weapon from the Wild Western RPG.
The hunt begins with searching for a clue, appearing in one of 20 random locations indicated by a photograph. While this provides visual insight, it may be challenging to navigate your way if you're unfamiliar with the area. As you progress the mission, you earn $5,000 for each clue discovered. After collecting all clues, additional rewards can be earned by using the newly acquired weapon to complete a headshot challenge.

The potential location for the clues in the Treasure Hunt is indicated on the map with a yellow question mark. The search area for the initial clue is quite broad, making it helpful to familiarize yourself with all the possible locations listed below. Doing so allows you to cross-reference and pinpoint exactly where you need to go based on the clue you receive.
To search for and identify the clue in the Treasure Hunt mission, look out for a note attached to a rock, tree, or another object within the area shown in the photo sent to your in-game phone. As you approach the correct spot, you will hear the distinctive sound of a metal wind chime, signaling proximity to the clue.

Upon discovering the first clue at one of the designated locations, players are required to find three additional clues to complete the mission and unlock the Double-Action Revolver. Once all three clues have been found, the map will update to reveal a random location with a treasure chest. Opening this chest rewards players with the Double-Action Revolver, which is ready for collection.
Once you successfully unlock and acquire the Double-Action Revolver, you can undertake a challenge to achieve 50 headshots. Completing this challenge will reward you with a gold-plated variant of the Red Dead Redemption 2 weapon, along with a money bonus in GTA Online of $250,000.
How To Complete The Headshot Challenge
One can earn headshots by targeting either NPCs or other players, and certain areas are particularly populated, making them good spots for this challenge. While targeting NPCs in the open is usually easier, it frequently attracts unwanted police attention, which can be frustrating to evade and disrupt the flow of your challenge.
ShortyXBL offers a higher-risk but potentially more rewarding strategy for achieving headshots in GTA Online. As suggested, players can earn additional cash by robbing stores and then securing a free headshot of the shopkeeper. Repeating this method throughout the challenge can accumulate significant money alongside completing the headshot objective.
Robbering a store can earn between $10,000 and $15,000 each time. Therefore, it can be extremely profitable to carry out this action 50 times, one for each required headshot.
To keep track of your progress, look out for the notification displayed after every 10 headshots, clearly indicating how far along you are in the challenge. The rewards are granted immediately upon completion of the challenge in GTA Online.
